Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal termed Navjot Singh Sidhu an “opportunist of the first order” who perennially carried a “begging bowl” and was reduced to “petitioning political parties to give him some position in their hierarchy”.

The CM was presiding over a Sangat Darshan programme held here on Thursday.

After calling Capt Amarinder Singh and Arvind Kejriwal ‘paper tigers’ yesterday, the CM turned his attention to Sidhu.

He said Sidhu had backstabbed his mother party and that was the reason why “no party was wiling to take him.”

“He is a politician, if we can call him one, who has absolutely no stand. He is putting his best foot forward to negotiate a favourable deal but he is yet to find success. He is into politics of opportunism which is an art in itself but he has yet to master it. I wish him all the best in his future endeavours,” Badal said.

“Sidhu is a defector and a fugitive. He defected from his parent party without giving any solid reason and later became a fugitive. For days nobody knew where he was. I fail to understand why the man is playing games when the need of the hour for him was to come clean. How will people repose their trust in a deserter?” averred the CM.

Taking on Amarinder yet again, the CM said he had concrete information that the Congress would not implement the debt waiver scheme if at all the party was voted to power.

“People still remember that Amarinder Singh withdrew the facility of free power to farmers during his regime. Amarinder is a man who neither has vision nor the will to do work,” he added.
