Congress nominee from Bholath Gurbinder Atwal today sparked fresh controversy as he shared the stage with party rebel MLA from Banga Tarlochan Soondh, who has been denied the ticket this time and has been contesting as an Independent.

Soondh had organised a show of strength on the death anniversary of his father and former minister Jagat Ram Soondh at Soondh village in Banga. “It’s a wrong decision to deny me the ticket. Similarly, the high command has taken wrong step by fielding Atwal from Bholath where he has no connections,” said Soondh as Atwal was by his side.

On this, Atwal said, “I was deputed by the PPCC to placate Soondh. But by the time I reached, he had announced his candidature as an Independent.” Atwal, reportedly not convinced on being given the Bholath seat, has been accused of indulging in anti-party activities in the past too.
