Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHA) as well as mid-day meal workers and facilitators observed hunger strike outside the DC office today.

“We are working day and night but the money we are given by the government is very less. We should be enrolled on the pay scale of government employees,” said Jeet Kaur, president of the ASHA Workers’ Union.

Leader of mid-day meal workers, Kulwinder Kaur, said the workers were working in schools and preparing meal for students but the government was paying Rs 1,000 per month to them.

“We prepare tea for teachers and it is our duty to lock the rooms after the school is over but we are not being paid according to the work done by us,” she further said.
