One more suspected dengue death was reported from Mohali district today. The patient reportedly died of suspected dengue at Government Multi-Specialty Hospital (GMSH), Sector 16, Chandigarh.

Besides, 89 fresh dengue cases — 18 from Chandigarh, 61 from Mohali district and 10 from Panchkula — were reported at various hospitals today. With this, the total number of dengue cases reported from the tricity and the surrounding areas so far has reached 1,825. Fourteen fresh chikungunya cases were also reported from the tricity today. Four cases were reported from Chandigarh and 14 from Panchkula while no fresh case was reported from Mohali. A special anti-dengue drive was conducted today at Mani Majra and Sector 41, Chandigarh. While one team was led by the Assistant Director (Malaria), who was accompanied by the state epidemiologist, at Sector 41, the other team was led by Dr Gaurav Aggarwal, anti-malaria officer, Chandigarh, at Mani Majra. Under the drive, house-to-house visits were made. Ten challans and 15 notices were issued to violators.

The teams observed that the major sources of mosquito breeding in these areas were coolers and garbage dumps. Proper hygiene was not being maintained at Mani Majra regarding which awareness was created.
