A 44-year-old widow, who was allegedly raped on September 14, has lodged a complaint at CM Window here after the police “failed” to arrest the accused.

She is from the district’s Sadpura village.

In her complaint, she alleged Mam Chand, a chowkidar in Sadpura who disbursed widow pension, entered her house around 11 am 10 days ago and raped her by putting a cloth in her mouth. She was alone at home at that time.

“He threatened to kill me and my college-going son if I told anyone about the incident,” the victim said in her complaint.

The women’s police station here had booked a case under Sections 376, 450 and 506 of the IPC against the accused a day after the incident.

She alleged the police had not arrested the accused because he was close to an MLA. “He has been threatening me to withdraw the complaint.”

The victim has sought police security.

“I have met Commissioner of Police Hanif Qureshi and Station House Officer (SHO), but to no avail. Since the police did not act, I lodged a complaint at CM Window on September 22,”she said.

Yogesh Sharma, former MLA from Ballabgarh, said the state government’s claim of providing women with safe environment proved hollow.

Qureshi said the matter which was still to come to his notice would be investigated.
