Haridwar, July 30

For the upcoming Shravan Kanwar fair, that begins on August 1, a Kanwar mela zone has come into effect, with bifurcation of the whole mela zone.

The core Kanwar mela zone has been bifurcated into 25 zones and 94 sectors for better management and administration.

District Magistrate Harish Chand Semwal said zonal and sector magistrates had been appointed for all these zones and sectors, who would be in charge for the zones and sectors.

“I have directed them to inspect and visit their respective zones daily so that any problem or lack of infrastructure or facilities can be looked after immediately as just two days are left for the mega annual fair. The sector and zonal magistrates will be in direct touch with each other and will report any important development or event immediately to the mela administration control room,” Harish Chand stated.

The DM also directed Jal Sansthan, Pay Jal Nigam, Irrigation Department and Power Corporation officials to ensure provision of potable water, power supply, renovation of Kanwar stretch and cleanliness in and around the mela zone.

The DM also gave directions to carry out impromptu checking and inspection of grocery, eateries, restaurant and shops on the Kanwar route to District Food Supplies Officer Rahul Sharma.

Municipal Corporation Chief Administrative Town Officer Vipra Trivedi said a cleanliness drive was being carried out at the core mela zone of Har-Ki-Pauri, with spraying of insecticide, construction of temporary toilets and installation of additional street lights.

Rate lists were also being put up at shops to ensure that no conflict arose between traders and kanwariyas, as had been witnessed at many occasions during the previous Kanwar fairs.
