Dehradun, July 12

Chief Minister TS Rawat on Thursday said his government would soon enact a law providing capital punishment to those found guilty of raping minor girls aged 12 years or below. The CM, while speaking in Kashipur, said that the state government would also look for ways for setting up fast-track courts for dealing with rape cases to ensure speedy justice to victims.

“We plan to bring the Act for hanging rapists of minors in the upcoming session of the Uttarakhand Vidhan Sabha. Several other measures aimed at preventing crime against women and ensuring their safety too would be introduced,” he said.

On the issue of High Court rejecting a petition by Hema Purohit challenging his election to the Doiwala Assembly segment, the Chief Minister said, “These are aimed at distracting me personally and my government, I keep telling my Cabinet colleagues not to pay any heed to them and instead concentrate on their work,” he said.
