The UT Vigilance Department has now asked officials of the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation to take action against seven staff members of the MC enforcement wing in connection with the Vigilance probe of the 12 paid parking lots of the city.
The Vigilance Department in their communication to the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation has asked to impose heavy penalties on the officials of the MC enforcement wing, who were named in the inquiry reports.
The Vigilance Department has submitted different reports for parking lots of Sector 8, 9, 17, 22 and 34. The department has already submitted a report for parking lots opposite the Elante Mall, Sukhna Lake, Sector 35 and Sector 17.
Sources said the MC had submitted around 12 inquiry reports of different parking lots in which three area sub-inspectors, two supervising officers and two members of the flying squad of the MC enforcement wing were held responsible.
In these reports it was stated that these officers did not issue challans to the parking lot contractors for certain months in 2014-15 despite complaints of violations in these lots, sources added.
No action against contractors
Though the Vigilance Department has recommended action against MC employees, but no action was recommended against the parking lot contractors. There are many parking contractors, whose lots were probed by the Vigilance team and violations were detected, but still these operators are running different parking lots in the city.
Vigilance was probing violations at lots
After the Elante Mall paid parking case, former UT Adviser Vijay Kumar Dev, in August last year, had ordered a Vigilance probe into overcharging and other violations at the remaining 24 parking lots in the city. On the Adviser’s directions, the UT Vigilance Department had initiated the probe.
Licences of two contractors terminated
After the Vigilance probe into the Elante Mall and Sukhna Lake parking lots last year, the Chandigarh MC had terminated the licences of two parking lots — Elante Mall and Sukhna Lake — as the replies submitted by both contractors to the show-cause notices issued by the MC were found to be unsatisfactory.
