Shimla, August 28

Activists of the ABVP, joined by the family members of 4-year-old Yug who was brutally murdered, today sat on a one-day hunger strike demanding justice for Yug.

Demanding the capital punishment for the accused, the activists said for speedy justice, the case should be transferred to a fast-track court. Sanjay Sharma, state president of the ABVP, said the incident raised questions on law and order in the state capital.

He alleged that the accused had connections with political leaders and the role of influential persons known to the accused should also be probed.

Taking a dig at the Mayor, the Deputy Mayor and top officials of the Shimla Municipal Corporation (SMC), he said residents of Shimla were made to drink water from the tank where the body of Yug was dumped and a case should be registered against them.

The tall claims of the SMC that the tanks were cleaned many times fell flat and the role of the SMC was under the scanner, he added.
