Hundreds of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) activists staged a dharna at the SSP office in Tarn Taran against alleged police atrocities against party volunteers. Kartar Singh Pehilwan, who has been declared party’s candidate from this Vidhan Sabha constituency, led the party workers.

Addressing the volunteers, Kartar alleged that the police, at the behest of the ruling SAD, was slapping alleged false cases against party volunteers.

He alleged that party’s volunteers were being attacked by the workers of the ruling party in a well-planned manner and then, cases too were being registered against AAP volunteers.

Giving instances, Kartar said Sukhdev Singh of Gaggobua village was attacked on September 20 but he and his two more associates were booked under Section 326 and have been sent to jail. He condemned the police for not taking action against those who attacked Sukhdev.

He alleged Juigraj Singh of Machhike too was booked on flimsy grounds. “Rajinder Singh Jodha, a baptised Sikh, was injured in an attack by SAD workers but the police booked ‘unidentified persons’ in the case,” said Kartar Singh. The party gave a memorandum to the district police authorities. SP (headquarters) Narindner Bedi assured the party that the issues would be probed.
