Chandigarh, January 5

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has become the first party to declare its candidates on all 117 seats for the Assembly elections. The party was the first to start the ticket distribution process with its first list coming out in the month of September last year.

Its alliance partner Lok Insaf Party led by Bains Brothers is contesting on five of the 117 seats.

AAP state convener Gurpreet Singh Waraich announced that Sarabjot Singh Dhanjal would contest from Amritsar East, Manish Agarwal from Amritsar North and Rajinder Kumar would be the party candidate from Amritsar Central.

The Akali Dal has declared nominees from all but three in its quota of 94 seats. Its alliance partner BJP will put up candidates on the remaining 23 seats. The BJP has not announced a single candidate so far.

The Congress has declared candidates on 77 seats so far.

TMC releases first list of 5 nominees

Chandigarh: After failing to forge an alliance with AAP, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Thursday released its first list of candidates. State party president Jagmeet Singh Brar said the candidates included former minister Dr Harbans Lal (Fatehgarh Sahib), Begum Parveen Nusrat (Malerkotla), former MLA Vijay Sathi (Moga), Prof Manpreet Kaur Brar Rajeana (Baghapurana) and Giriraj Rajora (Balluana). Brar, who made announcements favouring an alliance with AAP, hasn’t confirmed as to how many seats TMC would contest. “We tried for the alliance to happen, but it is unfortunate that Kejriwal deserted Mamata Banerjee,”  Brar said. tns
