Patiala, December 5

With the announcement of the name of Ashutosh Joshi as the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate from the Rajpura Assembly seat, the competition on the Rajpura seat has heated up.

While the Congress has almost finalised the name of Rajpura MLA Hardyal Singh Kamboj yet again to contest from Rajpura, Ashutosh (40) will be pitted against a very experienced hand but claims that he will be able to pull it off comfortably.

Having done his masters in Information Technology from RMIT University, Australia, Ashutosh was working as a marketing consultant with a private company before he entered into active politics. Ashutosh was amongst the initial volunteers of the AAP in the area and had been associated with the Anna Hazare movement. He has been actively working as a party volunteer since long. His name has been shortlisted amongst 61 applicants and Ashutosh claims that he has the support of the majority.

“The sole aim of joining the AAP was to be a part of the political change that was the need of the hour to save Punjab from the clutches of corrupt politicians. Our family has been settled in Rajpura from the past four decades and things here have gone from bad to worse. So I decided to join politics so that I am empowered to bring a positive change in the area. I am glad that the party acknowledged my work and showed faith in me. I am sure that there may be few applicants that might not be too happy with ticket allocation, but then, we are not here for personal gains,” he added.
