Chandigarh, January 5

The State Transport Authority (STA) today impounded seven vehicles of Ola cabs, a taxi service being run on web-based application. The taxis were found being operated without the valid documents.

Rajiv Tewari, additional secretary, STA, said the cabs were operating despite a ban by the Centre and the UT.

The STA has already issued notices to three Ola cab operators to stop the service immediately.

Tewari said they were running the cabs under the All-India permit based on the basis of an application and it did not fall under the purview of the scheme, Radio Taxi Service, introduced by the Chandigarh Administration in 2006. He said they would challan their cabs from tomorrow. — TNS
