Haridwar, July 5

With the arrest of six persons, the police today claimed to have busted an inter-state gang of vehicle lifters and seized 12 motorcycles from their possession. SP (city) Surjeet Singh Pawar said the gang was active in the Uttarakhand-western UP region for the past one year.

SIDCUL police station in charge Deepak Kathait said two persons who were riding on a motorcycle were stopped near the Mahindra square yesterday. Since the bike was without number plates, they were asked to furnish papers. However, the duo tried to flee but were arrested by SI Ranjeet Singh and his team.

Upon their interrogation, the duo, Tilak and Badal, confessed to stealing bikes and said this motorcycle was also stolen from the SIDCUL area on June 22.

Later, they disclosed the names of four of their accomplices. They have been identified as Dilshad, Mukesh, Monu and Sumit. The stolen bikes have been recovered from Haridwar and Dehradun.

Meanwhile, SSP Sweety Aggarwal has announced a cash award of Rs 2,500 for the police team comprising Girijesh Tripathi, Ajay Tyagi, Karan Kumar, Manish Chaudhari, Manohar Balodi, Avnesh Rana and Kuldeep Dimri.

A case has been registered under Sections 379, 411 and 34 of the IPC.
