The police seized five JCB machines while doing illegal mining in local rivulets during the past 24 hours.

A police team, led by the Jawali SHO, conducted checking in the Dehar khud near Batees Meel last evening and found three JCB machines indulging in mining activity on the riverbed. These JCBs belonged to stone crusher units set up in the area.

SP Sanjiv Gandhi said these JCBs had been impounded by the police and Rs 75,000 realised as penalty from the JCB owners.

The police caught another JCB machine indulging in mining activity in the Bhool khud near Nagrota Surian. A sum of Rs 25,000 was recovered as penalty from its owner. — OC
