A case of cheating has been registered at Rai police station against five persons — Sukhchain Chawala, resident of South Extension in Delhi, his wife Poonam, brother Dilbag and Dilbag’s wife Meena — for fraudulently drawing loans of Rs 164.8 crores from three different banks, in the name of a firm HR Agro Industries near Bahalgarh in Sonepat district.

The case was registered by Satish Garg, regional manager of State Bank of India’s (SBI) branch at Sector-17 Chandigarh. In his complaint, Garg alleged the alleged accused had taken loans amounting to Rs 164.8 crore from branches of SBI, State Bank of Patiala and Punjab National Bank at Rai in Sonepat district.

He alleged the accused took the loans claiming that they were owners of the rice mill HR Agro and a warehouse. The banks advanced the loans after mortgaging the unit and the godown stock. Later, inquiries revealed the accused had already sold the unit as well as the rice stock in the godown.

SHO of Rai police station Inspector Rishi Kant confirmed that after receiving a complaint, a case of cheating and fraud under different sections of IPC had been registered against five persons. He added the accused would be arrested soon.
