Gidderbaha, January 15

The SDM-cum-Returning Officer today issued four show-cause notices to Jagdeep Sandhu, AAP candidate from Gidderbaha, for his presence at a road blockade.

A show-cause notice has also been issued to IYC chief-cum-MLA Gidderbaha Amrinder Singh ‘Raja Warring’ for his presence at the same protest.

Four youngsters riding a motorcycle were killed in a collision with a car at Husnar Chowk on the national highway here on the night of January 13.

Their families, along with a large number of people and some politicians, today blocked the national highway at Husnar Chowk, seeking the arrest of the car driver.

Sources said that the police and SDM visited the protest site and assured the protesters that justice would be done and the accused had been arrested.

Jagdeep Sandhu and Raja Warring were also told to get the road blockade removed, sources added. They said that after that, Warring went away to a side, but Jagdeep allegedly continued arguing with the SDM and the police.

Later, three vehicles belonging to the AAP were impounded by the police for violating the model code of conduct and as their owners failed to produce the required documents.

Anand Sagar Sharma, SDM-cum-Returning Officer, Gidderbaha, said, “A show-cause notice has been issued to the AAP candidate as to why action should not be taken against him under the National Highway Act. I appealed to him to lift the protest and make the highway functional, but he did not do so.

“The second notice is regarding a vehicle, which displayed the stickers of AAP and blocked the national highway.

“The third one is related to three vehicles displaying AAP posters, but not having any registration documents.

“The fourth show-cause notice was issued to him for telling the family of one of the deceased that he would bear the hospital expenses of Rs 50,000. I have asked him why a case of bribery should not be registered against him,” the SDM said.

He said, “We have the video footage of the protest and the notices were served on that basis. The police have also been told to investigate it. Further, I am cancelling the permission given to the AAP candidate for the use of vehicles during his campaign.”

Repeated attempts to contact Jagdeep Sandhu proved futile.
