Mansa, October 18

Disappointed over the alleged act of sacrilege at Bargari village in Kotkapura and subsequent killing of protesting Sikh youths, four more SGPC members announced to quit the religious body today.

SGPC member from Budhlada (rural) Sukhchain Singh Dhanpura and SGPC member, Mansa (rural), Boota Singh Gurthadi submitted their resignation on moral grounds today. These SGPC members, who are also members of the Gurmat Sidhant Pracharak Sant Samaj, had earlier demanded the resignation of Gurbachan Singh, jathedar of Akal Takht, Amritsar, on moral grounds after the latter gave edict to pardon the dera chief.

However, they remained silent on the government role to arrest the accused.

On October 15, as many as seven SGPC members had resigned from their posts.

Dhanpura, who is also general secretary of the Sant Samaj, said, “I have not resigned from my post of Sant Samaj, but I have resigned as SGPC member on moral grounds. We resigned as we have failed in our duty as SGPC members.”

Sant Samaj member Gurthadi said the act of sacrilege had completely left him disheartened following which he decided to resign from the post.

Hoshiarpur: Meanwhile, Charanjit Singh also resigned from the membership of the SGPC. He was nominated member of the SGPC from UP. In his resignation he has alleged that the SGPC has failed to upkeep the honour of Guru Granth Sahib.

Ludhiana: SGPC member Rajinder Kaur resigned from her membership protesting the desecration of Guru Granth Sahib here on Sunday. She is wife of Pritpal Singh, president of Gurdwara Dukh Niwaran Sahib. She was elected SGPC member from Ludhiana (west) constituency.

SAD senior leader resigns from party membership

Phagwara: SAD senior leader and SAD Political Affairs Committee member Jathedar Sukhdev Singh Bhaur resigned from the primary membership of the Akali Dal in protest against the sacrilege incident. Bhaur is also general secretary of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbhandhak Committee. This will be a major setback to SAD as Bhaur was a Tohra loyalist and also a Sikh scholar. OC
