4 injured as MC structure collapses in Shimla

SHIMLA: As many as four passengers, including three women, who were waiting for a bus at the local bus stand in the city near gurdwara, were injured, one of them seriously, when a part of the old shops being demolished by the private contractor of Municipal corporation fell on them.

As many as four passengers, including three women, who were waiting for a bus at the local bus stand in the city near gurdwara, were injured, one of them seriously, when a part of the old shops being demolished by the private contractor of Municipal corporation fell on them.

The four injured have been identified as Ritu, Sunita and Satya Verma and Rakesh. They were rushed to Deen Dayal Upadhay (Ripon). Sunita, 45, sustained serious injuries in the back and stomach and was rushed to the IGMC, where she was being operated. Three others, under treatment at Ripon hospital, are out of danger.

According to eyewitnesses, the passengers were waiting for a bus when the structure, which was being demolished, collapsed on them. The passengers charged that the MC contractor had not put any warning sign near the site which is located at the public place.

The police have lodged an FIR and a case of negligence on the part of the contractor, local bus stand authority and the MC for not putting a warning sign. Deputy Mayor Tikender Panwar said the old shops were being demolished creating parking space of the buses.
