4,102 voters to use postal ballot

A total of 4,102 voters would exercise their franchise for the general elections to the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Leh, through postal ballot on October 17.

“As many as 4,102 postal ballots have been dispatched to general postal voters, including the Army and other security personnel and service voters belonging to all the 26 constituencies of the Council,” an official source said.

A total of 80,811 voters, including 67,757 in Leh and 13,054 in Nubra, will use their right to franchise to elect members of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Leh, which was constituted in 1995.

Sources said there would be no use of electronic voting machines (EVMs) in these elections and voters would be provided ballot papers to cast their votes.

Meanwhile, the Election Authority on Friday said the counting of votes would be held at Government Degree College, Leh, on October 23.

“Government Degree College, Leh, shall be venue for the counting of votes on October 23. For this purpose, a strong room for storage, dispatch and receipt of important election material, shall be established at the college as per the past practice. The premises of the college shall be secured adequately by the district police and prepared suitably by the departments like Public Works Department (PWD), Power Development Deparment (PDD) and Public Health and Engineering (PHE) by October 17,” said Deputy Commissioner, Leh, Prasanna Ramaswamy G.
