The police today booked 37 persons belonging to a Sikh organisation for allegedly trying to disrupt “naam charcha” being organised by members of the Sirsa-based Dera Sacha Sauda in Canal Colony of Makhu block in the district.

The dera followers had reportedly informed the police and taken permission for holding the congregation. As the programme was nearing its end, some persons owing allegiance to an organisation identified as Ek Noor Khalsa Force arrived there. A heated exchange ensued between the two groups. The police prevented the situation from spinning out of control.

Gaurav Garg, SSP, said the police had booked 16 persons by name and 21 unidentified ones on the basis of a complaint lodged by dera followers. No arrest has been made so far.

The case was registered under Sections 506, 148, 149, 295 and 427 of the IPC.
