32,000 families without toilets

Pithoragarh: A total of 32,000 families, out of over 1 lakh families living in Pithoragarh district, are without toilets.

A total of 32,000 families, out of over 1 lakh families living in Pithoragarh district, are without toilets. The process of constructing toilets is in progress. This was revealed at a meeting chaired by the Pithoragarh District Magistrate with officers of the Jal Nigam, Jal Sansthan and the Swajal project over the availability of water and toilets in the district.

 

The project officer of the Swajal project in the district informed the District Magistrate that of the 1,00,421 families in the district, 32,000 had no toilets at present. “We have given the task of constructing over 6,149 toilets in the current year and of which 2,172 toilets have been constructed so far,” said the project officer of Swajal project.

 

The project officer said they were also running a project on the solid waste management in the district and had selected a village near the Kanalichina block and sanctioned Rs 35 lakh for it. The District Magistrate instructed the officers present to make all preparations to tackle the water shortage problem before the summer and construct the Awalaqghat drinking water project speedily.
