More than 30 persons were taken sick due to jaundice outbreak at Shyam Sunder Puri colony in Jagadhri city of this district.

Residents of the colony say they were getting contaminated water supply for the past fortnight.

Malkiat Saini, Tushar and Ravinder Kumar said that they were suffering from jaundice for a week. They said majority of those suffering from the disease were taking treatment from private hospitals.

“The Public Health Department had made a tube well functional in the colony 15 days ago. Since then, we are getting contaminated water,” said a resident of the colony.

Dr Ramesh Kumar, Deputy Civil Surgeon, National Health Mission, Yamunanagar, said he had sent several teams of doctors and other staff members in the colony and 17 persons were found to be suffering from jaundice.

The officials of Public Health Department were also checking pipelines to check the problem of dirty water supply to the colony. Parikh, Sub Divisional Officer, said joints of the tap connections were being checked to prevent leakage.
