3 youths among 4 killed in hit-and-run cases in city

CHANDIGARH: Four persons, including three youths, were killed while another one was injured in three hit-and-run cases reported from different parts of the city last night.

Four persons, including three youths, were killed while another one was injured in three hit-and-run cases reported from different parts of the city last night.

Two youths were killed while another one was injured after the Activa scooter they were triple-riding was hit by a Mahindra pick-up at Ram Darbar. The driver sped away from the spot.

Sources said the victims were returning to Hallo Majra from Sector 32 when the mishap occurred around midnight. The injured were rushed to the GMCH, Sector 32, where doctors declared Anil (22), a resident of Hallo Majra, brought dead. The other deceased is yet to be identified. The injured has been identified as Ranjit (18).

Police sources said the victims were in an inebriated condition when the accident took place. The victims were not wearing helmets at the time of the accident.

Anil was working as an attendant at a public toilet in Sector 32 while injured Ranjit runs a roadside tea stall.

A case under Sections 279 (rash driving), 304-A (causing death by negligence) and 337 has been registered against the pick-up driver at the Sector 31 police station

The pick-up was caught on a CCTV camera installed outside a shop in Ram Darbar. Sources said the police had identified the driver.

Had come in search of job

Although one of the deceased is yet to be identified by the police as he was not carrying any ID card in his pocket, the injured youth revealed that the deceased was known to Anil and had come to the city from Haryana in search of a job.

Motorcycle hit

In another hit-and-run case, one person was killed while another one was seriously injured after the motorcycle they were riding was hit by an unidentified vehicle at the Khuda Lahora bridge. The victims were heading towards Dhanas.

Sources said the victims were found lying on the road by passersby, who informed the police. The victims were rushed to the PGI where Shiv Kumar (32) was declared brought dead. The pillion rider, Brij Kumar, was seriously injured.

The deceased worked as a mechanic in a factory. The police have registered a case.

Biker dies

The third hit-and-run incident was reported from the Sector 29/30 light point in which a motorcyclist lost his life. The victim had been identified as 24-year-old Lucky, a resident of Sector 30.

He was heading home when an unidentified vehicle hit his motorcycle. The victim was working in a private company. A case has been registered.
