Patiala, April 30

The Patiala police have booked three women and two men for allegedly blackmailing a Sangrur man threatening to upload his objectionable video with one of them if he fails to pay them Rs 15 lakh. The extortion racket was foiled when the man approached the police, after being blackmailed by the gang.

The police said they would soon arrest the accused, Parwinder Kaur, Paramjit Kaur, Parvinder Kaur and their male accomplices Gurmukh Singh and Harvinder Singh. All women are married and were trying to extort money from the accused.

The police said last month, Parwinder Kaur had called Sukhdip Singh, a Sangrur resident, and asked him to meet her, after befriending him on mobile phone. “When he came to Patiala to meet her, she took him to her residence at Urban Estate and developed physical relations with him. Later, the other gang members, posing as her relatives, reached at her residence and asked him to pay Rs 15 lakh or they would upload his video with the woman on the internet,” reads the FIR registered at the Urban Estate police station, Patiala.

The victim then met the Patiala SSP who ordered the CIA staff to probe the matter. “We are conducting raids to arrest the accused,” said the police.
