3 wildlife smugglers held, 222 turtles seized

The police arrested three poachers and seized 222 turtles from their possesion in Udham Singh Nagar district today.

Acting on a tip-off, the police intercepted a van bearing registration number (UP-78-EB-5503) in the Teenpani area of Rudrapur in Udham Singh Nagar district today. On search, the police found 222 turtles kept in three jute sacks.

The driver and other persons in the van tried to flee but were arrested. The arrested persons were later identified as Imran, Taapas and Anita. The trio during interrogation revealed that they had captured these turtles from Auraiya in Uttar Pradesh and were taking them to Jagatpura in Rudrapur. The police have registered a case against them under the Wildlife Conservation Act.

One held with 1,050 bottles of liquor

The Special Task Force (STF) arrested a person with 1,050 bottles of liquor near the Dakpathar barrage in Vikas Nagar on Saturday.

Acting on a tip-off, STF officials stopped a vehicle and apprehended Kunal, a resident of Punjab, with 1,050 bottles of liquor.

The accused admitted that he was bringing cartons of illicit liquor from Chandigarh for supply in Dehradun.
