Three travel agents have been booked by the Tarn Taran police for duping people of lakhs of rupees on the pretext of sending them abroad.

Bhupinder Kumar Sonu and his wife Sandhia of Majitha Road, Amritsar, have been booked under Sections 420 and 120-B of the IPC.

Thakur Singh of Kajikot Kalan village and his associate in his complaint to the police alleged that the accused couple took from them an amount of Rs 7 lakh to send them to Singapore on work visa. The accused sent them on a multi-visa for which they were sent back after 24 hours and the Singapore Government fined them 700 dollars.

When the complainants demanded their money back, the accused allegedly threatened them.

In another such case, Ranjodh Singh of Patti has been booked under Section 420 of the IPC for duping people of Rs 11.97 lakh by falsely promising to get them settled in Canada.

Complaints Pavandeep Singh, Gurminder Singh of Jalandhar and Varinder Singh of Khokhar (Ropar) alleged that they had deposited the amount in the accused's bank account, but he failed to send them to Canada. None of the accused have been arrested.
