3 ‘save girl child’ vans flagged off

Kavita Jain, Women and Child Development Minister, today flagged off three vans to spread awareness towards saving the girl child.

Carrying the message ‘Identity is different, rights are one’, the vans will visit 230 villages of Hisar, Sirsa and Fatehabad districts. They will use infotainment techniques to educate people about gender-based discrimination. Each van is equipped to show a feature film highlighting methods to report female foeticide. They also have a ‘nukkad natak’ team.

Speaking at the Leadership Summit on gender-based violence at the Haryana Niwas by Save the Children and the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR), Haryana, the minister said there was a dire need to end gender inequality.

The summit was supported by the US Embassy, Department of State. “The US Embassy and Save the Children have a shared goal of working with the local communities and making a lasting change in the mindset of people,” said Jake Miner, political officer, US Embassy, Department of State.
