The police have arrested three notorious criminals, including a most-wanted gangster carrying a reward of Rs 25,000, and seized illegal firearms and ammunition from their possession.

Stating this here today, SSP Rakesh Arya said a team of the CIA-I led by ASI Vinod Kumar was on patrol on the Sonepat road yesterday when they got a tip-off that three armed miscreants were waiting in a white XUV not bearing any registration number plate near the Chevrolet showroom.

As the police team reached the spot, the miscreants blocked the way of the team’s car with their XUV and tried to loot the team members at pistolpoint, not knowing that they were police personnel.

The police personnel overpowered the miscreants along with their weapons. The arrested youths have been identified as Kulbir alias Gogru of Deshkhera village in Jind district, Vikas alias Vicky of Baliyana village in Rohtak district and Praveen alias Sonu of Rojla village in Jind district. Three country-made pistols and 11 cartridges were recovered from their possession.

Interrogation revealed that several other weapons were stocked at the house of Vikas in Baliyana village. A police team raided his house and seized four other weapons and many cartridges from the house.

The SSP said the arrested youths plotted to kill a witness in a case and certain other persons, for which they had acquired the weapons. He congratulated the CIA-I team led by Inspector Rakesh Kumar.
