The police have arrested three persons, who posed as ‘gaurakshaks’ and sought Rs 6 lakh from a trucker carrying bulls from Punjab to Uttar Pradesh. The youths have been identified as Vinod, Kapil and Ravinder of Mundhal village in Bhiwani district. The truck driver has also been arrested on charge of cruelty to the animals.

Truck driver Jagsir of Mansa district in Punjab told the police that he was taking 20 bulls from Rampur in Punjab to Muradabad in Uttar Pradesh on a business assignment.

He said as they reached Bhaini Maharajpur village on the NH-10 near Meham yesterday, three car-borne youths got the truck stopped and forcibly took them to nearby agricultural fields.

The driver alleged that the youths, who claimed to be from some ‘gaurakshak’ group, thrashed him and his aide Tarsem and sought Rs 6 lakh for letting them go along with the truck. The police arrested the youths and impounded the car. — TNS
