3 die in mishap, SGPC member escapes unhurt

Three persons were killed and five others injured in a head-on collision between two cars on the Chamkaur Sahib-Doraha road near here today. SGPC member and SAD vice-president Amarjit Singh Chawla escaped unhurt.

Two of the deceased were identified as Hira Singh, a resident of Mandi district in Himachal Pradesh, and Nirwair Singh, a member of the SGPC task force. The identity of a deceased woman was yet to be established.

Chawla said he was going from Anandpur Sahib to Ludhiana in his Innova when it was hit by a Chevrolet Sail near Bassi Gujran village.

Chawla’s gunmen Harjinder Singh and Barkat Singh were referred to the GMCH, Chandigarh.

Four African students injured in mishap

Phagwara:Four African students of a private university were injured when the car they were travelling in rammed into a private bus from the rear side between Goraya and Phillaur today.

The students identified as Keafe Oscar, Ilka Amanda, Benisee and Ange Marry were on the way to Ludhiana from Lovely Professional University, Phagwara.

They were first admitted to the Phillaur Civil Hospital and then referred to a Ludhiana hospital. The police have impounded the bus and arrested bus driver Amandeep Singh. The accident took place when the bus driver suddenly applied brakes while saving the bus from a vehicle. — OC
