Sirsa, December 18

An undertrial prisoner tried to end his life in the district jail last night in protest against the alleged harassment by the jail authorities.

The jail inmate, Parveen Kumar, of Indira Vikas Colony in Sirsa, has been in judicial custody for the past 11 months in an ATM break case. He injured his stomach with a sharp spoon inside his barrack.

In a “suicide note”, Kumar has accused Jail Superintendent JS Sethi and Line Officer Sarwan Singh of persecuting him and held them responsible for his step. Sethi, who has denied the allegation against him and the other official, said Kumar was taken to the General Hospital, where doctors provided sutures to the injuries. He was later shifted to the jail hospital where he opened the sutures today morning, the Jail Superintendent alleged.
