Solan, October 10

Three suspected cases of chikungunya have surfaced in Parwanoo. Chief Medical Officer Dr RK Daroch said three cases were reported from Parwanoo. One of the patients daily commuted from Kalka while the other two had recently visited Panchkula, Mani Majra and Chandigarh, he said, adding that none of the three suspected cases had acquired the disease in Himachal.

Dr RK Daroch said their blood samples had been sent to the IGMC for tests and reports were awaited. He said: “Since the disease can be transmitted if a mosquito bites an infected patient, we have initiated activities like counselling at the community level with the help of the local municipal committees to take precautionary steps.”

He said the disease had no specific treatment and the supportive treatment of such patients was under way. He said they had the requisite medicine stock. “People should ensure that mosquitoes do not breed in their vicinity,” he said.
