Mohali, August 29

The Mohali CIA has arrested three persons allegedly involved in snatching of gold chains and theft of vehicles in the area. One of their accomplices is still at large.

The accused — Satnam Singh, alias Tota (23), of Tajpur village in Ropar, Harpreet Singh, alias Happy (20), of Bhauwal village in Ropar and Jaswinder Singh, alias Jassi (26), of Kanjla village in Ropar — were active in the Mohali area for the past several months. The police recovered four gold chains and three motorbikes — a Pulsar, a Hero Honda and a Platina — from the possession of the accused.

Giving details, Mohali SSP Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said Tota and Happy were involved in snatchings and vehicle thefts while Jassi helped them in selling the booty. “Their fourth accomplice is yet to be arrested”, said the SSP.

The SSP said the accused were involved in three back-to-back snatching incidents on Sunday in Mohali. “They used to change the number plates of the motorcycles and use these for committing crime. The Pulsar and Hero Honda motorcycles recovered from them were stolen vehicles,” said the SSP.

Lauding the efforts of the CIA team, led by Inspector Gurcharan Singh, the SSP said with the arrest of the accused, the police were hopeful of working out several other snatching and theft incidents in the area.

A case under Sections 356, 379, 382, 411, 420, 467, 468, 471 and 473 of the IPC has been registered against the accused at the Kharar Sadar police station.
