Mohali: The Mohali Senior Citizens Association honoured five senior citizens during a function to mark "International Day of Older Persons" at Shivalik Public School, Phase VI, here today.

The function, held in association with the Department of Social Welfare, Punjab Government, witnessed nearly 500 participants from the tricity.

Mohali Deputy Commissioner Tejinder Pal Singh Sidhu presented shawls to the five selected elderly persons, Ram Labhaya Kakkar, Tarlochan Singh Chawla, Manmohan Singh, Tej Kaur and Mohinder Singh Oberoi, in presence of their family members. Bhavneshwar Sharma, state head of Helpagge India, the NGO, had organised welfare activities for the elderly.

A cultural programme was also presented.The association also presented a memorandum containing a few problems of the senior citizens to the chief guest, for onward submission to the Punjab Chief Minister.
