28-year-old thrashed for denying beedi to man, dies

A 28-year-old youth working at a meat shop in Indira Colony near Mani Majra died after he was allegedly thrashed by a man for denying him a beedi. The youth was thrashed on Sunday night after which he was hospitalised. He succumbed to his injuries yesterday. 

The accused has been arrested and a case registered against him at the IT Park police station. According to the police, the victim, identified as Vikram, had an altercation with Arun Kumar at Indira Colony. Vikram was smoking a beedi and Arun asked the victim for a "beedi". However, he refused to give him one. Arun got infuriated and started hitting the victim.

Inspector Jaspal Singh, SHO of the IT Park police station, said Arun repeatedly punched the victim on his head. The victim was rushed to the hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.  The autopsy will be conducted tomorrow after which the body will be handed over to the victim’s family. 

The accused, a vegetable vendor at Sector 26, has been arrested and will be produced in the court tomorrow.
