Ludhiana, November 1

Twentyone more patients, including 12 male and nine female, tested positive for dengue today in various city hospitals.

With this, the total number of confirmed dengue cases in the city has reached 598, said the district health officials.

Maintaining that Ludhiana district was the worst affected from vector-borne diseases this season, the officials said as many as 395 confirmed cases were reported from Ludhiana district alone. Among other patients afflicted from dengue, 179 had been brought here for treatment from other districts of Punjab, while another 24 had come from neighbouring states.

It is not only dengue, but chikunguniya also holds the city in its vice-like grip with more than 50 confirmed cases having already been admitted to different hospitals in the city.

With no relief from mosquito-borne diseases in sight in the near future, city residents feel that both Municipal Corporation and the Health Department had left them to fend for themselves or rather at the mercy of mosquitoes.

“Fogging schedule of the MC seems to have gone haywire and so called awareness campaign being run by the Health Department is nowhere to be seen,” said Kulwant Singh, a resident of Field Ganj locality.
