The Mohali police booked three persons, including two women, for duping a Dasua-based woman of Rs 7.5 lakh on the pretext of sending her to Australia on a study visa.

The accused, Ramandeep Kaur, Gagandeep Kaur and Lakhwinder Lakha, have been booked under Sections 420 and 406, IPC.

Inspector Harman Singh, SHO of the Phase I police station, said the accused were running their office under the name of Study Hub Education at Phase V here.

“They took an amount of Rs 7.5 lakh from Manpreet Kaur, a resident of Dasua, Punjab, promising to send her to Australia on a study visa. They neither provided the visa nor returned the amount to the complainant,” the SHO said.

He said the accused were facing several other cases of similar nature. “The three accused have been absconding. Raids are on to nab them,” he said. — TNS
