Two traffic policemen — a head constable and a constable — were arrested by UT Vigilance sleuths today for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 300 from a motorcyclist at the Sector 23/24 light point.
Before paying the bribe, the complainant clicked pictures of the currency notes and then complained to the Vigilance Department.
Sources said the motorcyclist, Navdeep, a resident of Sector 37, was stopped at the light point by Head Constable Ravinder and Constable Samar Singh. The complainant was asked to show the documents of the motorcycle.
The sources said since Navdeep could not furnish all documents, the policemen asked for a bribe. “The complainant clicked photographs of three currency notes of Rs 100 and handed these to the policemen,” the sources said.
The complainant informed Vigilance sleuths, who arrived at the spot and recovered the currency notes from the two policemen.
The numbers on the currency notes recovered from the policemen were found to be the same which were clicked by the complainant.
A case against the policemen has been registered at the Vigilance police station, Sector 9.
