Two suspected dengue deaths were reported from Kharar, Mohali district, here today. The deceased, 45-year-old Tabassum and 18-year-old Sahil belonged to the same family and resided in the Rambagh Colony of Kharar. While Sahil reportedly died on October 2, Tabassum died last night at the PGI. 

Mohali Civil Surgeon Dr Ranjit Kaur Guru said the PGI was yet to submit the report of the cause of deaths. “In the meanwhile, we will go to the residential colony of the deceased and conduct an anti-dengue activity,” said Dr Guru.

Meanwhile, 19 fresh cases of dengue were reported from Mohali district, taking the total number of the district to 1,061. Apart from that, 25 new dengue cases were reported from Chandigarh, along with eight new chikungunya cases. As many as 19 cases of chikungunya cases were reported from Panchkula.

The number of dengue cases recorded in the tricity and surrounding areas today reached 1,641.

The Health Departments of Mohali, Chandigarh and Panchkula are conducting various activities to strengthen the control and prevention of dengue-chikungunya, including daily fumigation, mass awareness, checking of breeding sources like coolers, containers, tyres and other sources.
