Girls have once again outshone boys in the Punjab School Education Board’s Class-XII results declared today. Ludhiana girl Darshveer Kaur Kalsi and Ropar’s Saima Rashid both share the top slot in the overall merit list.

Darshveer and Saima, both science students of RS Model Senior Secondary School, Ludhiana; and Khalsa Senior Secondary School, Ropar, respectively, have secured cent per cent marks (450 out of 450) to grab the top position jointly in the merit list. The second and third positions, too, have been grabbed by Ludhiana girls.

Sarika, a humanities student of BCM Senior Secondary School, Ludhiana, has secured 99.78 per cent to remain on the second spot, while the third position is jointly shared by Kajal Tandon (science) from RS Model Senior Secondary School and Nistha Juneja (humanities) from BCM Senior Secondary School, securing 99.56 per cent marks. What’s common among all toppers: they all are national level sportspersons and have got 15 grace marks under the sports quota.  The total pass percentage this year is 76.24, which is 4.85 per cent less than the last year’s (81.09 per cent). PSEB chairperson Dr Tajinder Kaur Dhaliwal said strict vigilance and the new system of table marking could be the factors behind the drop in the pass percentage this year.

Of 3,39,818 candidates, 2,59,080 have cleared the Class-XII exams. “The pass percentage of boys and girls is 70.73 and 83.26, respectively. “All in all, I am satisfied with the result,” said Dr Dhaliwal.
