A UT constable posted with the PCR wing was allegedly assaulted by two unknown motorcycle-borne persons near Shastri Nagar, Mani Majra, yesterday.

According to the police, the miscreants, riding a motorcycle bearing a registration number of Chandigarh, hit a PCR motorcycle near the Shitla Mata temple light point in Shastri Nagar.

The police said the accused entered into an argument and quarrelled with Constable Mandeep Kumar.

The accused managed to flee from the spot.

A case against unknown persons under Sections 279 (rash driving), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter a public servant from performing his duty), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from the discharge of his duty), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of a common intention) of the IPC has been registered at the IT Park police station.

Police officials said efforts were being made to identify the accused.
