Chandigarh, October 20

Eighteen councillors and an official of the Municipal Corporation (MC) will go to Hyderabad for a training programme under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) scheme. The delegation will leave the city on the three-day tour on October 24.

MC Commissioner B Purushartha has given his approval in this regard on October 18 and the Mayor’s office today started the process to book air tickets for the delegation.

Only BJP and SAD councillors along with nominated and independent members of the House are going for the training programme.

Sources said to enhance the functional knowledge and improve job skills of the elected representatives and employees, the MC, under the AMRUT scheme, had signed an MoU with training entities — MCR Human Resource Development Institute and the Engineering Staff College of India, both in Hyderabad.

The Congress had already decided not to go on any study tour or training programme under the leadership of Mayor Arun Sood.

The MC Commissioner’s approval states, “The elected representatives are hereby allowed to perform a journey beyond jurisdiction in public interest. Sanjay Arora, Superintending Engineer, MC, is appointed as nodal officer.”

Already, various MC officials have attended this training programme under the AMRUT scheme this year.
