15 Corps celebrates Raising Day

The Army’s Srinagar-based 15 Corps, also known as Chinar Corps, celebrated the 99th year of its formation at a ceremony held at its headquarters here today.

Major General Anil Chauhan, officiating General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Corps, offered floral tributes at the War Memorial in the Badami Bagh cantonment, which houses the Corps headquarters, an Army statement said. It said solemn and impressive ceremonies were organised at the cantonment for the serving soldiers.

The officiating GOC recounted the achievements of the Corps and the sacrifices made by its soldiers, the statement said. “He also said Chinar Corps is organising a series of initiatives for the welfare of Awaam in the run-up to the 67th Army Day,” the statement said.

The Baramulla-based Dagger Division of the 15 Corps also organised several events to celebrate the Raising Day. The Chinar Corps celebrate January 12 as its Raising Day as it was raised in Egypt at Post Said on January 12, 1916, under the command of Lt Gen Sir Henry Home. The Corps fought during the World War I in 1916-1918 and was later re-raised on March 20, 1942, at Barrackpore.
