100-yr-old woman found murdered

A 100-year-old woman was found murdered outside her home in Daun Kalan village, about 20 km from the city on the Patiala-Chandigarh Highway, this morning.

While the body of the deceased, Kartar Kaur, was recovered from outside her home, some of her clothes were later found from a nearby field, which was assumed to be the exact place of the crime by police investigators.

Initially, the police were suspecting that the woman had been raped. Later, medical reports confirmed otherwise.

Kartar’s body was first discovered by her neighbours in the morning who later informed her family members who were sleeping inside the house. Later, they informed the police about the incident.

A team of officials from the Sadar police station reached the spot. Later, senior officials of the department, including District Police Chief GS Chauhan, also reached the village to take stock of the situation and monitor investigations.

Gurcharan Singh, son of the deceased, who is also a former panch of the village, said she had spelt alone outside the house last night while the family members were sleeping inside. The body was found outside the house in the morning.

According to the police, preliminary investigations suggested that the assailants took the woman to a nearby field, where she was murdered. Blood stains were found at the spot. Some injury marks had been found on her body, which indicate a scuffle with the killers. She is believed to have been battered to death with a brick or some heavy object.

Meanwhile, a case under various sections of the law has been registered at the Sadar police station. The body has been sent to the Civil Hospital for post-mortem examination.
