1 dead, 3 injured as roof collapses

While the rain last night brought respite from scorching heat, the strong winds that accompanied it resulted in the death of a person and injuring three others as the roof under which they were asleep fell on them.

The deceased has been identified as Ranjit Yadav (35) from Bihar. The injured persons are Parmod (27) from Bihar, Subodh (30) and Manoj Kumar (50) from UP. The injured have been admitted to a private hospital here.

They were sleeping in the two rooms of a rented accommodation in the Islamabad area here. The accident occurred on an old factory premises which has now been converted into an accommodation for migrant labourers.

In another instance, five buffaloes and four cows of farmer Jasbir Singh were killed as the shed of his dairy farm in Bhai Veer Singh Nagar collapsed.

The strong winds also uprooted a large number of electricity poles and trees. A shed of the Roadways workshop was also affected.

An official of the municipal corporation said that they have received complaints about damage to 40 trees and 10 electricity poles which had disrupted traffic and power supply.
