Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has directed the authorities to carry out a survey of the proposed 200-km Bawana-Sonepat-Panipat-Uchana-Indri-Yamunanagar Expressway along the Western Yamuna Canal in consultation with the Irrigation Department. He was presiding over a meeting of the Public Works (Building and Roads) Department here yesterday.

The proposed project will decongest the traffic on NH-1 in Sonepat, Panipat, Karnal and Yamunanagar. Out of the 200 km, 160 km falls in the NCR area and rest falls in Yamunanagar district. The project will cost about Rs 1,000 crore.

While the state government will spent Rs 150 crore on the project, the remaining amount will be borne by the National Capital Region Planning Board (NCRPB). It will have four railway overbridges (ROBs) and 10 flyovers.

The CM said he would also take up the Rai Malikpur (Rajasthan Border)–Narnaul–Mahendergarh–Dadri-Bhiwani-Kharak Corridor project with the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways for declaring it a national highway.

Khattar was also informed that 38 roads having a length of 331 km had been proposed in NABARD with an estimated cost of Rs 275 crore. On this, the Chief Minister directed the officials concerned to make optimum utilisation of funds received from NABARD and NCRPB.
