Soon, ultra-modern home for Army veterans

The Army will soon have its first ultra-modern senior citizens’ home at Panchkula to cater to the requirements of veterans who are in need, said Lt Gen KJ Singh, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Command.

Addressing a function organised by the Chandigarh Senior Citizens Association (CSCA) at Chandimandir today, Lieutenant General Singh said initially, the home would have the capacity to house 60 inmates.

A proposal to build a similar home at Mohali is on the anvil, he said, adding that it would materialise only if the Punjab Government extended assistance by offering land.

Brig (Dr) ML Kataria (retd) was honoured on the occasion for running several health institutions in the tricity even at the age of 96 while Maj Sucha Singh Gill was honoured for maintaining an equal zest for life at the age of 98.

Besides, three serving soldiers were also conferred a special honour for exhibiting valour while combating terrorists at different places. A cultural programme was also presented jointly by artistes from the CSCA and the Western Command.
