Chandigarh, October 1

“I only used to get a monthly salary of Rs 600 when I taught here on the campus for six years. I used to spend the money seeing movies and eating at restaurants,” said Justice Jagdish Singh Khehar while recalling his days at the university, as a student and teacher, during his address at the third law convocation today.

He said he could not explain in words how happy he was when he received his first salary of Rs 600 as a teacher on the campus.

Justice Khehar joined the university as a student in 1974 and by 1979 he had completed his studies and taught on the campus from 1980 to 1986. “When I joined as a student, I did not know how to present myself and this university taught me how to speak and think right,” he said while interacting with students.

During his opening address, he  took the names of all the faculty members who taught him. He thanked his teachers for making him what he was today.

“I accepted the invitation of addressing the convocation as I wanted to thank my teachers of the university,” he said.
