Patiala, January 18

Eighty-year-old Lal Singh always knew that his children would make him proud one day. And, the day has arrived. His son Dev Mann is the AAP candidate from Nabha.

Lal Singh has been running a cycle repair shop in Fatehpur Rajputan village of Sanaur for 45 years. It was this shop that has helped him bring up his six sons and two daughters.

Now with all his eight children doing well in life, Lal Singh has no financial worries but he is not ready to give up his “kirt kamai.”

Even at this age, he continues to repair bicycles and claims that he cannot give up his work for emotional reasons.

He said this work has made his children what they are today and they should never forget their roots.

“My children, especially Dev, keep telling me that I should stop working now as all of them are in good jobs and can fend for me and my wife. But if I leave work, I will fall ill. I have told Dev to do his duty as a politician and I am doing mine. By God’s grace, I have a decent house and my children earn well. But the pleasure I derive from work is incomparable,” he added.

Coming from an economically weaker section, Lal Singh said he “never thought that his son could make it so far in politics, but now that AAP has shown faith in Dev, we totally support him and are making all possible efforts to ensure his win.”

“AAP’s win will be a victory of the masses and it will be the best day for Punjab,” said Dev’s mother Bhag Kaur alias Bhago.
